Purpose and Rationale of the Course

Purpose

The purpose of the Skills Development Facilitation (SDF) Practitioner course is to equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to support, coordinate, and implement skills development processes within organisations in accordance with national skills development legislation and organisational objectives.

The course enables learners to contribute to the planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting of skills development initiatives, including training needs analysis, learning programme coordination, and compliance-related documentation. It prepares learners to function effectively in entry-level to intermediate skills development, training, and learning support roles.

Rationale

Organisations are required to continuously develop the skills of their workforce while complying with national skills development frameworks and regulatory requirements. The role of the Skills Development Facilitator is therefore critical in ensuring that training interventions are relevant, aligned to organisational goals, and compliant with legislative and SETA requirements.

This course responds to the growing demand for competent practitioners who can support skills development planning, implementation, and reporting processes within both public and private sector organisations. It provides learners with a structured foundation in skills development practices, enabling them to support organisational performance, workforce capability, and national skills development priorities.

The course also provides a progression pathway for learners seeking to pursue careers in skills development, human resources, learning and development, or training coordination, while supporting lifelong learning and professional growth.
